Latest Flowers ~ Amaryllis

For several years at Christmas as a gift I would receive an amaryllis bulb...my sister knows how much I enjoy them.

After it dies down, I will put it in the well house with the rest of the plants I am keeping from freezing. Spring time I will plant it in the east side flower garden. It won't bloom again this year, but it will gain strength in the leaves to produce flowers next year. In the fall, I dig up the amaryllis bulbs and store them in a paper sack in a cool place. Spring time, plant them in the garden. Around the end of May they will bloom again. These bulbs are too expensive to just pitch after one blooming.

Daughter Holly received a bulb at a seminar in Florida back in November - she knew I would get more enjoyment from it than she would. It wound up putting on 6 flowers on the one stem...four at one time and then two later on. 100_2602

Who is ready for Spring to get here and we can actually work in an outside flower bed? I know I am....

Amaryllis are such a wonder of nature. I used to get given them often as Christmas presents from pupils, and I miss them now. Perhaps I should just go out and buy one for myself! I think we're still a fair way off from the arrival of Spring, but I have ordered my vegetable seeds now, so that brings it a little closer.

Just beautiful. I haven't had any amaryllis for many years and at the time didn't know that they could be planted outdoors. I'll have to get one next year. I would enjoy it and Chloe would enjoy watching it grow and bloom.

I hope you husband is doing well with his recovery.

You amaryllis is gorgeous! I am ready for spring...but the cool is good too. I have pansies everywhere, they can tolerate the cold, and have planted little tomatoes inside in hopes for a bumper crop this year.

The color of yours is so pretty! I was wondering about whether it could go outside or not.

Beautiful flowers, Amelia! My grandma, Minnie, loved growing Amaryllis. I think it's time I give it a try.
