For several years at Christmas as a gift I would receive an amaryllis bulb...my sister knows how much I enjoy them.
After it dies down, I will put it in the well house with the rest of the plants I am keeping from freezing. Spring time I will plant it in the east side flower garden. It won't bloom again this year, but it will gain strength in the leaves to produce flowers next year. In the fall, I dig up the amaryllis bulbs and store them in a paper sack in a cool place. Spring time, plant them in the garden. Around the end of May they will bloom again. These bulbs are too expensive to just pitch after one blooming.
Daughter Holly received a bulb at a seminar in Florida back in November - she knew I would get more enjoyment from it than she would. It wound up putting on 6 flowers on the one stem...four at one time and then two later on.
Who is ready for Spring to get here and we can actually work in an outside flower bed? I know I am....
