A Christmas Beauty

The other day while

wondering thru Atwood's – a local

feed-seed  hardware type store –I found

some Amaryllis bulbs on sale for $2.50 each.

I selected a couple of them that looked like

they would bloom by Christmas.

This is the one I put in my sewing

room. The other one is located in

the computer room.

100_0315

I don’t know if you can tell

but there are four huge blossoms

on this one stem. Looks like

another stem will come forth later

on.

100_0319

This show the four blossoms much

better.

100_0322 Isn’t this absolutely beautiful…

The plant here in the computer room is also

the same color. It has two stems and

looks like one stem will have four flowers.

The other one – at least as this point in time- will

have three flowers.

After the blooming period I will store them in the

well house for the winter. Spring time, I will

plant in the ground in one of the flower

gardens…perhaps, they will bloom again

this  next summer. But, if they don’t,  they will the

next year.

Flowers of Spring 2011

For those of you who read my blog think I have probably disappeared

off the face of the earth.

Just busy with life all the time…plus I am older and it takes longer to get things done.

I am still putter around with my

flowers…real dry here…so am constantly watering them.

Be prepared as there are lots of pictures. If you were here I

would offer you something to drink and cookies.

There still more areas I did not show.

However, you can get  an idea as to how the

Watkins flowers look this year.

April Flowers

The weather has been so unpredictable

during this month…hot then cold.

The bad part is we have not had

a good soaking rain in months.

However, my perennials are

fairing pretty well. I have been

watering them some though.

The annuals I have put out are looking

terrible…in fact the impatiens are just

sitting in the pots…losing part of their

leaves and putting on a few new flowers.

The dusty miller and petunias

are looking okay though.

Verbena plants are so-so. Also

forked over

some money

and purchased 5 knock out roses.

If they live – the decision is

unknown at this time.

I do want you to see how pretty thee flowers

have been during the last three weeks.

Lots of pictures – so settle back with a drink of

your favorite beverage and a few cookies while

we wander around the Watkins garden.

There are still more flowers I could have

have shown…but this is enough for now.

This is Easter weekend – please attend church

of your choice and praise God for all the

wonderful blessings.

Red and Yellow

Not normally two colors used together

in decorating.

But in a bouquet – why not?100_5855

We received these from our Sunday School Class.

They were delivered by one of the ladies

from our class on Sunday who had just received the

news about our health issues along with trips to

the hospital. She went to either Wal-Mart or the

local grocery and selected these beauties.

The colors were playing well with each other

so just arranged them in a vase.  I happened

to remember I had picked up a pair of yellow candle

sticks recently (Goodwill) that would go along

with the red/yellow theme.

As you can  tell there are still some red and white items

left from Valentine’s Day decor.

Flowers

You probably think that  flowers are the only thing on my pea sized brain…well not the number one thing – but close.

Remember the tote/bag I showed made from the old red wool coat. After making the first flower – I wanted to make more and more and more. I know there is no way I can wear all these flowers – but the fun in creating them is worth lots in satisfaction.

Keep in mind in person these are red – with the flash off they look pink – with the flash on it seems like I get a shiny effect – oh well just think red when you are looking at them.

The ones in the lower part of this last picture were my favorite to make  - as you can tell.  They took longer but was able to cut the petals from small pieces of fabric – and when that is all you have – you work with that.

Fall Beauties

It is amazing how pretty many of our flowers are this late in the season. This is just a part of the ones still blooming.

100_4728Seems like the mums are especially pretty this year.

100_4740The trees are starting to turn – just a bit.

Loving this time of the year!
