A New Trick

...for an old dog (me).

I have read about fixing bacon in the oven for quite some time - but never tried it. I have fixed it in a skillet for many long years...why change my method.

Reasons: no more grease splatters all over everywhere, no more grease popping on your hands and arms while turning it over and over, either using several skillets or using one for a long time to get all the bacon fried you need are three very good reasons to go to the oven method.

Before trying it I did research on the internet...came up with a zillon different ideas, ways, etc. Well, this is what I did and it certainly worked for me.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Lay bacon side by side on an old cookie sheet (one with sides to catch the grease). Cook until desired doneness. This can range from 15 minutes to 25 minutes - - depending on the thickness of the slice. As usual, drain on paper towels when cooking is completed.

This is really an excellent way when fixing breakfast for a multitude of people.

What is you latest new tip you have tried in the kitchen and it really works? One that makes you think why in the world you had not tried that before.

I have heard about cooking bacon in the oven but never tried it. Now I need to since you have and it works. I too hate that bacon grease popping and the splatters! Thanks for sharing that. Stay warm.♥

I've done that before too. I did think it was alot of cleanup with the cookie sheet. Did you line it with foil?

Yesterday I cooked sausage links in the oven. Worked great and it was delicious with our waffles. :)

Don't you still get splatters?

I always line my grill pan with foil and cook bacon under the grill; not too many spatters, only the grill rack to clean up. I've never tried it in the oven though.

I started cooking bacon in the oven several years ago when I had to cook for a crowd. Sure is an efficient way to do it!

Kitchen tricks? I make meatballs with a small ice cream scoop and I bake (never fry) them.

I've never tried the bacon in the oven--I'll check it out.
My only household trick I can think of since I have hardwood floors and tile floors is the Swffer mop. But instead of buying the swiffer disposable things, I use a microfiber towel on the mop. It picks up everything! I vacuum it off when full and re-use it. Then when dirty, throw it in the washer. Those refills are expensive!

I cook our bacon in the microwave.

Put a layer of paper towels on a microwave safe plate. Add a single layer of bacon. (The slices can overlap a little.)

Cover with another layer of paper towels.

Microwave for about 4 minutes. Check the bacon and take out any slices that are done. You may need to cook some of the slices a little more. It depends on your microwave.

The bacon comes out crispy, which is the way we like it.

Clean-up is easy. The paper towels keep the bacon from splattering.

We use turkey bacon.

And now I want bacon and eggs. Sigh.

I have to try that. I usually put it in the microwave. One minute for each slice. I have a microwave pan, about 30 years old, I put it on. It probably taste better in the oven.

I have never tried bacon in the oven! :) I hate the way bacon on the stove makes my house smell but I LOVE bacon! In fact I bought some yesterday at the store so maybe I'll try the oven method.

That is a great tip, Amelia! I've cooked it in the microwave, but haven't tried the oven! Like you said, sure would be better than splattering grease, and easier to cook for a crowd! Does it cut down on the grease smell as well? I'm going to try this!

~hugs, Rhonda :)
