If anyone checked out our yard we have several one of a kind objects scattered about . We have added another one -this one has been placed on the back porch.
We recently had to change out our satellite dish so this old one was going to be thrown away. I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it. The wrought iron piece is a pot rack turned up side down...which I bought at a garage sale some time ago. I knew my sweet husband would be able to figure out how to mount the rack to the metal circle. Of course, he did - and I added my help by holding as he screwed the two together. Then he painted it.
It is all painted black - glossy-that is why the coconut fiber filler is reflecting to the left making it appear as not painted. I bought one of those hanging baskets with the filler at the dollar store to put in it to hold the potting soil in place.
I stuffed spanish moss between the metal parts and the coconut fiber filler - just to add a different look. The plants are both Swedish Ivy...one is a varigated type and the other is solid green. The varigated one is a plant I purchased last year for a dollar or two...had it in a pot last year with some other plants...when winter time came I dug it up and put in a small pot. To my shock it survived even though it did lose quite a few leaves. But this spring I placed it in a shady area and it has grown a lot of new leaves. The green Swedish Ivy is just some stems I pulled off some of my other potted ones to make them look more uniform. They will take root in this new home and do quite well...or at least I hope. I am sure by the end of summer this will be looking quite full and lush.
I really get a kick out of using objects in other ways than originally intended.

What a great idea, and another use for your green thumb! Sounds like your hubby is great help in making your ideas work. We are lucky ladies, you and I. Those guys from OK are pretty good fellows to have.
LOVE IT! What a great idea!
SO CLEVER! it looks so cool! Very nice recycling going on there!

it is absolutely beautiful!!!
That is the most unique idea I have ever seen!!! Great inspiration girl!!! Thanks for coming by...yes it is never a dull moment around our family but i have to say I am thrilled to pieces about my parents moving back to their home..It has really taken a toll on mama this past month..she tried to get use to her apartment...it is very large and beautiful but I knew she'd miss her home and yard and porch..the poor thing has just been sick over ever leaving it..so I don't mind this kind of move! lol I am just so thankful daddy loves her so much that he'd do anything to make her happy ( I tell Bill to take notes!) lol thanks again for coming by..have a great week!
It amazes me the things you come up with ,good for you and what a lovely idea .No one would ever guess it was a satellite dish.
Amazing! I would never have thought something like that could turn out so lovely. That's recycling in the best kind of way because you then put a plant in it which will help with the air!
Please show pictures when the Swedish Ivy fills in. I use to have some and loved it because it does just as you say....fills in and looks lush. Left mine behind in our move here and haven't bought one to replace it.
If I were the person handing out "Green Awards".....I'd definitely give you one for this idea!
My goodness...you do have fabulous ideas. I would never have thought about this...
hugs, bj
