Larry's Fish Quilt - another old quilt in review

Have you ever stumbled over some fabric that you immediately knew it had to be a quilt for some loved person? When I found this fish fabric with matching fabric from the same manufacturer I knew it had to come home with me. At that time, I knew it would be just a very plain vanilla type quilt as the print told the story.

Number 1 son does a lot of bass tournament fishing - so this was right down his alley - so to speak. He is a big, big guy - 6'4" and weighing about 285 - not fat - just lots and lots of muscles. Until a couple of years ago he was a lineman for the local public electric company. Well, he still works for them - just in a different capacity.

Admiring his latest quilt.

All of the fish were "fussy cut" in a 10 inch square.

For the quilting in the "fish" part I did a wavy line - this gave movement to the block - like water moving.

Look at the design on the fabric just next to the fish fabric. It sort of looks like the belly part of the fish - or like a snake. Either one still gave me the colors to blend with the fish.

Click on the photos to enlarge them to get a better look. Yes, the marking lines for stitching are visable - pictures were taken before removing them.

That's an awesome quilt. Paul would love it. I made him a fishing quilt the 2nd Christmas we were together. We still use it and he loves it.

That is beautiful! I love the quilting that you did on it, perfect for the design. And all the fabrics match perfectly.

I remember when I was just a wee little girl, my Dad was a lineman for the phone company. I thought he was a bodybuilder with all the muscles he had. I guess they come with all the climbing that they do.

For some reason, my comment yesterday would not go through. So, I will try again.

Your son is a pretty lucky guy....I would say from that picture that he was very pleased. How neat that you found that fabric to frame the fussy cuts! Wish I could find deer and elk fabic like that for the great white hunter a quilt. Need to start looking.

Do you hand quilt on a frame or use a hoop?

Love the quilt - especially like the "scale" print border around the fish.
