Friday 1-09-09

It has been a week since I posted. what have I been doing- been busy - but probably not that anyone could tell.

Finally got all the Christmas decorations down and packed away - the shed is full of my stuff. I store most of our holiday decoration items there, stuff collected for a garage sale, future items I may or may not use for daily decorating in the house, my quilt scraps, and some other misc items.

Last week took a double chest of drawers to my daughter's house - with the new baby coming they needed the chest more than we did. Of course, all the items in it had to be dealt with. Some went to trash, others to garage sale box, rest was sorted and put into boxes or another small chest of drawers.

These last two paragraphs brings to mind how much "STUFF" I have. A lot of the stuff I don't want to get rid of as the cost of replacing it (if I should need or want it) would be sky high. Some of the items makes me wonder why I am keeping it...old birthday cards for instance. Do you suppose anyone will read them once I am gone? I file them away along with other cards we receive....no I don't keep each and every one...but just those from the kids. What do you readers do? Another thing, if I don't get rid of some of my stuff now -when the weather gets nice and people are having garage sales I will want to go...got to have room for the new treasures.

Did work in the yard yesterday...was so nice to have a rake in my hand and hear the lawn mower humming in the air. Leon was mowing the leaves - I raked them away from flower beds to make them easier to get to for mowing. Also noticed the tulips and jonquils are poking the small green tips through the ground. We really need rain...has been a long time since we have had any moisture to speak of.

Have a great day - while I figure out how to accomplish more, lose weight, solve all political problems, obtain world peace, decide on what vegetable for lunch, pray, quilt, sew, pamper my husband and what ever else that might pop into my head.

If I would get off the computer, my house would be cleaner, I would accomplish more of a lot of things and I might get out and get some exercise. But here I am and it is good to hear from you today!

I have a drawer full of cards from the kids and my husband. I know that someday they will have to go but until then, I will keep them because I can. I feel so sorry for my kids when they have to clean out our "treasures".

Cleaning....I'm trying to do the same. Stuff....I have plenty too!! I have been thinking about scanning some of the cards I have saved through the years and put them on one of the little thumb drives. That way I can look at them without having to keep all of them. Just a thought. We will see if I get it done.

Oh...and when you figure out the secret of how to accomplish more...please let me know! :-)
Have a wonderful day!

Oh I wish I had your energy! Actually I have cleaned the living room from top to bottom today! Even cleaned the ceiling fan! I must be getting sick because I usually don't clean that much!

Like you I have my own outbuilding! Hubby said that I junked his up too much so he built me one. He also says that I am a pack rat I keep everything! But my plan is someday when we do get in the new house I will go through it all and get rid of a lot of it. Somethings I might want to put in my new house since I don't have room for it now, but I plan on having a huge yard sale then. Richard says that I will NEVER get rid of any of it!

I dont' have a lot of cards, but I keep them (just don't ask me where they are, because I probably wont' be able to tell you!)

Seems my life is moving 'stuff' in, or out, or from here to there, only to move it again. I don't have an out building, so I must find places to store it 'within'.

You were raking leaves and mowing? My hubby needs to blow snow and put salt down on the driveway sometime before tomorrow so I don't have 10 quilters breaking their body parts!

Oh, hurry summer!
Blessings,
Michelle

I keep old cards too. Don't know why, but I think it's probably for sentimental reasons. Some of the people that sent them are dead now, and I still have a special message from them, even though they're no longer here.

I tried your suggestion, both times, and I don't know where to put the : . When you're in edit html mode, and there are all those <>'s, I don't know where to put it b/c if I just type it, it shows up as text in my blog. Any more ideas? It makes me crazy! Thanks for trying!

Amelia, you sound like me when in comes to "things". If I dispose of something....later I'm looking for it where it used to be stored! But, we do have to thin out. I love reading your blog.
God Bless.

It;s my husband who keeps too much stuff, I'm more ruthless. Though I do keep cards from my sons and husband. I just tuck them between books on the bookshelves, so they pop out and surprise me now and then when I take a book off the shelf. A good way of getting rid of stuff is to decorate a room, then it;s easy to sort things out as you put them back in the room. A bit drastic, but it does work!

I'm working so hard to de-stuff.

Lately having a lot of stuff around feels more like a burden than a joy.

We unloaded so much the last time we moved 10 years ago, but it's coming back.

I sure hope the tulips in my yard don't poke their little headfs out anytime soon. It is sapposed to be a high of 10F for the rest of the week. Burrrr that's too cold for anything or one. My cousin visited me this weekend from Supulpa, OK. Have you ever heard of that town? She has lived there for about 2 years now and really likes it there. She found a great job in the medical feild. I hope to come and visit her someday.

When you figure how to do all those things in the last of your post, let me know! LOL! :)

Sounds like you have been very busy! I've been trying to clean out a few closets too, to make more room for my junk treasures! :) Isn't it amazing how much STUFF can accumulate!

I have so many things too. I need to really de-clutter. My kids rooms are disasters too. My son has to keep every box that something comes in. Ugh. It makes me crazy.

We finally have all of the Christmas decor taken down, but the totes still haven't been put in the attic.

Hope you don't mind that I tagged you on our blog. No pressure.

I too am working on organizing and de-cluttering, it seems to be a common theme this January. Sounds like you are making great strides!

I work too hard at times getting rid of things and sometimes regret it. hmmm.

My mom saved cards from us kids. Not all of them, but probably one that meant a lot to her. When she got ill, she sent me the ones she saved that I had sent her in my adult life, and a few I had made as a child. Well, you can imagine the feeling that gave me.

Oh, also...
Thank you for leaving the potato soup recipe for me today. :)

Amelia, you sound so much like me! We do the same things and "wonder" the same things! As for your old birthday cards. Do an Altered Book. I have sone started with BD and Mother's Day cards just from my kids. Lots of fun to work on when you don't want to decorate, clean or sew. My granddaughter's art teacher started the class on an altered book and MJ was so happy she knew how to do one already! The book will reside in the LR when finished.
