"To Glue or not to Glue?"

While in town yesterday I ran by Goodwill to see if they had added any "treasures" since I had been in there. I found four that I wanted - not needed - but wanted. I did not spend enough money to help the economy either. Money wise - $6.00 plus tax...the pitcher was $2.00 - the wooden box was $3.00 - the other two items were 50 cents each. I have a collection of white pitchers - most are small ones - but with the detail on this one - I thought it needed to come to join my others. My sweet husband said why on the box...well I just liked the way it was made. It stands 8 inches tall and is 9 1/2 inches in width. I am thinking the gold color will go by the way side and it will be painted another color...at this point I am looking at a leather brown...but that could change once it is painted.

The other two pieces - well I have never seen a cake plate this small. It may not be a cake plate - but that is what I am reminded of. Perhaps to hold a fancy cupcake? The other piece is globe shaped.

So in reference to the title of my post today I am asking whether you think I should glue the globe to the little cake plate? Or not? In discussing this with Leon he said no...because I might want to put something else on it at a later time. Well, that is true...but I am afraid if I don't glue the globe down I will have to be so careful when I use it in decorating - you understand what I mean. Also I don't know what I would put on it besides this globe.

Right now, I am seeing a red pillar candle in it...with a Christmas candle ring around the base of the globe...then perhaps some greenery at the base...this is just a thought - would have to do some playing around.

Okay, I know each of you have decorating skills - what do you think - glue or not glue - then what?

I say "no" to the glue because I think the little stand would also be sweet for serving cookies or something like that. You could use the hurricane shade on top of the stand with a candle but put it somewhere that it would be unlikely to be bumped. I know that would also be my fear. I can just imagine hitting it wrong while you are dusting and then you would have a mess!

I think I agree with Leon. If you put a pillar candle inside the globe, the candle should hold it steady. I was just about to suggest a large candle ring around the base of the globe when you mentioned it. If you feel it is too unsteady, then by all means glue it. For the money you have invested in it, if you don't like it together, you can always find some more.

Blessings to you, and have a wonderful day!

Love your goodies!!! If you don't glue it maybe use some putty to stick them together. If you are going to use a candle ring around it, you shouldn't be able to see the putty and it could always be removed later. But like you, I would be afraid it would fall off and break if it wasn't stuck there somehow.

I don't think I would glue it. I would try something like Sticky Tack or even the putty like Kristie mentioned...and use a candle ring to hide that. I do think it will need something to hold the globe in place and I don't think the candle will do it unless you can somehow secure the candle so it won't move.

It will store better if you don't glue it.

What fun finds. I wouldn't glue it - I think it looks too top heavy when you put them together, so I'd use them separately I think.

I'm joining the "No Glue" bunch...
just because it'll be more versatile to change out...also, if your candle sputtered some wax inside the globe, it would be very difficult to clean...That pitcher was a steal! ;-) Bo

There's this stuff called Museum Wax; I've seen it in gift shops and such, it's just like Sticky Tack but clear. YOu could use that and hide it with greenery.

I say "no" as well! That is a DARLING little stand by the way.

Thanks for the idea about sausage in the "homeschool food". I have never thought about that!!!

Girl, I love that pitcher! Why doesn't my Goodwill (in The Town That Has Things) have anything like that when I drop in?

I have no luck. lol

What pretty bargains you found! I like the idea of the candle inside the hurricane globe. With some poinsettias around the base for a centerpiece for the table. I would love to see your collection of pitchers together!

I love all your finds, Amelia...I just love it when I find something on my thrifting trips.

Personally, I wouldn't glue them together. I have to agree with your sweetie on this one..

Good morning, Amelia! Great finds! Love the white pitcher. A red candle would be so pretty in it for Christmas. If you have a steady place, out of the reach of children, or much other movement, I would try it without gluing. The candle will steady it, inside the globe. The two pieces are fabulous together. The little pedastal piece may have many different uses and options in the future.

Wishing you a blessed week to come! :) ~Rhonda

I'm voting no for the glue, but I do see it as a candle holder or to hold some sort of figurine or angel. It appears to me that it's purpose was a candleholder. That box would be nice to put some sort of topiary or small x-mas tree in. I had to chuckle b/c I bought that same pitcher at my Goodwill, but unfortunately, my Goodwill is kind of pricey, so I didn't get as good a deal!

Hi:

I think your little plate is a petit four dish.

Great finds.
