Now I am a Carpenter...

That is correct...I am becoming a carpenter.

You will not find nails, wood, saw dust or a hammer in my work room.

But,

you will find pins, scissors and many, many scraps of fabric.

I am building houses - from the scraps of previous made quilts. Oh, yes I may throw in a piece of new fabric from time to time. But only if it is a small piece that I probably would not use anyway.

Most house blocks make the strips run vertical but I am making these run horizontal. Since all the colors will be in shades of brown I wanted them to look like logs in a log house.

I have really enjoyed making these - oh, I am far from being through. I plan on making them until the scraps run out. The fun part is really no measuring - that is until near the very end where I size them to a 8 1/2 square before adding the sashing border.

After making the houses I am thinking about taking green (got lots of this in many shades) and making blocks with a pine tree on them (flying geese type pattern).

Obvious choice for this quilt name: Log Cabins in the Pines.

Sounds like you are having fun with this one. I love quilts like this where you do what makes you happy and make up your mind as you go along.

Be sure and show us your "construction" progress! This is much easier than doing the real thing.

I love your little houses. You and your hubby are both building things now. They are just adorable and will be so beautiful in your quilt.

These are really cute, and you have to love the not measuring part.
