Quilting - Making Memories

Quilting is how I spend a large portion of my time. Practically each night you will find me at the dining room table with my current quilting project. I do my machine sewing during the day and the hand quilting at night. Some of the quilts can take 150 hours - plus - or minus to do the quilting by hand.

This quilt is the one I just finished a few days ago. I started the machine piecing in February when the weather was cold and dreary. Each quilt has a name and this one is entitled "Summer Dreams". The bright vivid colors reminded me of the joys of summer - pink and yellow flowers set with white clouds on a bright blue sky
This is "Blocks of Blue". This was a simple quick quilt to make - so not as much time went in to it . Maybe 100 hours in the hand part. Leon uses it when he naps on the weekend.
When I received part of the fabric used in this quilt from a friend the colors of lime green, lemony yellow and the raspberry pink brought to mind sherbert ice cream. So I thought why not make a ice cream cone themed quilt. If you look close you will see I used both shapes of cones - the pointed kind and the flat bottomed style. Luckily, I was able to find fabric in my stash that resembled cones with the design and color. Had enough blocks left over to make a youth quilt. Naturally, the name is "Ice Cream Cone".

Currently, the quilt I am quilting has 9 large sunflowers of various shades of yellow and gold set on a blue background. The flowers were hand appliqued - now that took some time to accomplish that feat. At times I wondered if it was worth it.

In the back of my mind I try to decide which pattern will I do next - I had thought I would do one with appliqued cats on one block and a star on the next block and so on. However, found out a couple of weeks ago we are going to have a great grandbaby. So perhaps, another youth quilt will be the one to be made.
