Something Old...Something New

SOMETHING OLD - Years and years ago when living in a duplex I found this old rocking chair in the attic. The woman who lived next door said it was a sewing rocker (because of no arms) and had belonged to a former occupant... who apparently had not wanted it and just left it behind. This chair has followed me from house to house to house the past 40 plus years. Now is occupies a place on the patio. I enjoy it more out there besides I don't have room in the house.

SOMETHING NEW - Several days ago I took off the old seat covering (the cane seat had disappeared years go) to make a new cover. I wanted something a bit different - so decided my embroidery machine should earn its keep...went thru the patterns and decided on one. Started the process - ran out of bobbin thread - this was a new problem I had not encountered before - so goofed up the way of going back and finishing the pattern once the bobbin thread had been installed. I then decided to add "W" to it. Upon showing it to my sweet man, he said the pattern looks like a scorpion. Well, I had wanted something different - so it truly is. While the old seat was off Leon sanded it down some100_4435 and then painted it this saddle brown color. The fabric color is tan with a tiny dark brown thread running thru it. The embroidery work is done in a dark brown.

100_4419 You can tell there is a slight raised design of flowers, leaves and stems on the upper part. Leon was careful not to sand too much and lose the pattern.

Here is a close up of the Watkins logo (scorpion ) and the letter W. Yes, it is different - but that is what I was after - so mission accomplished.100_4428This picture makes the fabric look blue...but it is tan as I mentioned earlier.

Weekend is almost here - I think we are going to some garage/yard/estate sales tomorrow. Who knows what we might find.

I love how you repurpose things!
That's my new word, repurpose. They say it on HGTV all the time now, or maybe I just finally started listening.

Jealous of your embroidery machine! ;)

The chair looks great. That's funny that he thought it looked like a scorpion.

Oh I love this chair and what you have done to it! I have a table that I am wanting to redo. I have just got to find some time when I am not running. Hopefully next week. Hope you are doing good.

Omygosh...this is beautiful..
You could get some burlap and make some of those frenchy pillows that are so popular and sell them...
That would be so cool...
