Copy Cat - Somewhat

In reading blogs from all around the world I read about the latest, newest and hot trends in a variety of subjects. Some of the trends are repeats of a past generation - such as I find in my quilting blogs. In the blogs of decorating using objects in a repurposed nature seems to be a fun subject. In the scrapbooking blogs there seems to a new way of creating cards or photo pages by using a newly released machine, cartridge, paper, or what ever.

All of these blogs show me a different personality - but since quilting, decorating and scrapbooking are hobbies I enjoy I find a real pleasure in reading them. Also have met some very wonderful, kind, and caring people.

In the decorating field, burlap seems to be the rage. Also shopping at the thrift stores or local yard sales keeps lots of us happy. Locating pictures frames with interesting detail during these adventures seems to pop up pretty often. Another thing I have noticed is the desire to put your monogram on a variety of items - other than the normal towels or pillowcases...guess that is still done...perhaps I am indicating the fact that I am older than many of our blog writers...not that I was around at the time Columbus set sail but still older.

So taking a picture frame and some burlap I created something. Remember back several months ago when my sweet honey bought me the embroidering machine...well I have used it some...but spring and summer arrived ...which means more time in the yard and less time in the sewing room. Weather is now cooler, flowers are about gone, and I am ready to get back to the sewing room and create...this is what I made this morning...before heading out to help with the funeral dinner at church. Remind me some time to give you a list of items that mourners will not eat at funeral dinners...that is another story (blog posting) all in rolled into one.

100_2357 So I was a copy cat in this...Marilyn in Southern Oklahoma made one like this several weeks ago....loved the idea...so copied her - then used the interesting frame suggestion from other bloggers - the burlap from other ladies who like to make drapes, etc from this fabric - used one of the fonts available on the embroidery machine to make the "W". This will be sitting on my desk.

Ideas were copied - but still wound up with one of a kind item - and the cost was just pennies.

Have a fun week...copy only the ideas that make you happy!

I am playing follow the leader in this game - decorating, crafting, or what ever you call this.

You are so right about burlap. It is everywhere! That and beadboard!! I still haven't done anything with it but I am on the lookout for burlap sacks that are printed. How easy to just stuff and turn into a pillow. Then I would feel like one of the decorating mavens I read all the time! Have a great day!

I'm entranced by the number of things you have done with 're-purposed' picture frames. It's not copying anyway, more taking inspiration. I imagine that burlap is what we call hessian, though yours looks softer than that.

I'm like you and have lots of plans to "borrow" ideas that I've seen around. What spray paint do you like or does it matter? I love the framed initial you made.

Very clever--nice how your mind works with all the ideas rolled into one to create a new one!
Looking forward to seeing more of your embroidering machine creations this winter. ;)

Hey, I haven't started Sweet Girl on piano lessons yet but probably will next year. I took when I was younger and wish I had paid more attention and stuck with it! I just bought the piano last year from a friend at her yard sale. I enjoy playing and Sweet Girl enjoys "playing" too. ;)

She is all better now from the flu now and was able to participate in her Thanksgiving program at school.

Love how you utilized the embroidery machine. The burlap works beautifully for the black monogram. The cold weather will have you enjoying it more, I'm sure.

Isn't it interesting how things trend in and out. I pulled some jewelry out the other day that I had as a teenager for Chloe. It had just been languishing in the bottom of a drawer. She also needed jeans and we found a pair that were splattered with paint. Those were "in" when I was a teenager too. Crazy. Wonder if my spray paint splattered jeans will make me stylish. : )

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I also look forward to your funeral food story. Interesting.
