Right Combination

Three things were in this combination:
1. Friday
2. Sun was shining
3. Garage sales

Considering all these, my sweet treasure hunter partner (Leon) and I, took off to see what kind of sales we could find. But first let me show you something I purchased last Saturday.100_1069
Somehow I was drawn to this breadbox...price was $3.00 - not bad. It had been in a kitchen for a long time as there was an accumulation of grease/dirt on it. When I started cleaning it the printed words faded away until you could hardly read them. Anyway, applied a coat of stain and a gave it a quick spray of something to give it a sheen.
100_1145 Glued one of the "antique" signs on the front ... it now resides in the kitchen along side some of my other things that brighten my kitchen.

100_1135 Today found this - can be hung - but I decided it looked best on an small black easel in the kitchen.. at this time I think I will put it close to the sunflowers you can see in the above picture. It is ceramic and we have had the spoon rest that goes with it for years.
100_1150 I am always on the look out for fall decorating items...seems like they stay out longer than any other season. Found this pumpkin today...will look great with a fall colored candle on it.
100_1141 Here are some more items I picked up today. Got the flower arrangements more for the holders than the flowers themselves. Two of them are metal with the distressed look...the other one just like the style. The bird cage is heavy - was more than I usually pay for something at a yard sale - but thought it was worth it. Cost was $10.00. It needs to be cleaned up - and then painted...more than likely will go with a flat black. At this point we are thinking it would look great hanging between the two boston ferns on the patio. As with a lot of decorating ideas, this might not look as great as we have envisioned - so some tweaking here and there might happen.

Enjoyed the outing with my wonderful husband as always...then we came home - I balanced the check book - Leon tilled the garden. After that we planted okra again ...the first planting did not go very well. One row came up fair...the other two rows rotted or was washed away. Now you know any garden in Oklahoma must contain okra...would be un-american if it didn't - don't you agree?

Enjoy all the blessings that come your direction!

I love your treasures! I also love your kitchen. You were at the right place at the right time. Yes, every garden should have okra...fried okara, gumbo, pickled okra...I miss having a garden.

Very nice to have your husband as your garage sale partner. I like what you did with the bakery box.

The birdcage is great. The top looks like a crown.

Very nice finds. My daughter and I may head out in the morning and see what we can find around here.

I love your bread box transformation! I like it better than the original. You sure did get some nice treasures...and now I know where the sun was hiding out today. It will be back tomorrow, because the weatherman told me so!

Have a blessed weekend!

Looks like you two had a fun day. I really like the bread box and the bird cage. I am sure with your eye, you will find several things to do with it.

Then there is the poor OK boy whose wife of many years would not know what to do with okra if she could grow it. I am sending him to your house! Be careful, okra and fishing, he might want to stay! Naw, he would miss me!

I absolutely agree it would be un-American if you didn't have okra in that garden....especially since I love okra!

You have some wonderful items there. I like what you did with the bread box....and I really like that plaque with the chickens. I think it will look beautiful by the sunflower arrangement! Best part of your trip is getting to enjoy it with DH! Isn't it wonderful to a best friend?

Hi Amelia!
thanks for the nice comment on my blog, I have enjoyed looking around yours and feel right at home with another Okie.

Your bread box is great, I am pretty sure that almost anything can be updated and you sure did that bread box.

your denim heart quilt is so pretty too.

What great finds, I especially like the rooster picture. I would have no idea what to do with okra if I grew it - if it even grew in our climate, which I doubt. How do you cook it?
